The RCZ wins best design and best coupe awards

Published on 25 August, 2010 by Arbury.

The RCZ sports coupé from Peugeot continues its hugely successful first year with two more awards. At the Auto Express New Car Awards 2010 – which

reveals all the best new cars – Peugeot battled it out to beat off the Audi TT and the VW Scirocco for Best Coupé.

Unsurprisingly, the RCZ also won the award for Best Design. This is the only award decided by an online Auto Express reader’s vote.

Editor in Chief of the UK’s biggest selling weekly car magazine, David Jones said: ‘With its swooping lines, distinctive "double bubble" roof and bold detailing, the French machine looks like it has driven straight off the designer's drawing board. Better still, the RCZ's beauty is much more than skin deep.’

Indeed, the RCZ has proved so popular that within two months of its launch it had sold more than half of its allocated 2010 production.

Johns went on say: ‘Road cars rarely look as good as their concept car inspirations - but the RCZ is no ordinary vehicle. And Peugeot is reaping the rewards, as the coupé has gone from show star to hot showroom property in the blink of an eye.’

Boris Reinmoller, Peugeot’s designer who was responsible for the initial RCZ concept designs, accepted the Design Award on behalf of Peugeot UK.

The RCZ can add these two new awards to an impressive shelf of accolades including Diesel Car magazine’s Sports Car of the Year, Fleet World magazine’s Design of the Year, and Most Beautiful Car of the Year 2009 at the 25th Automobile Festival.
