A new era for the All-New Nissan LEAF, coming soon!

Turning over a new LEAF

Over in Sunderland, home to Britain’s biggest car plant, workers are beginning production of the All-New Nissan LEAF, with the first cars available later in 2025.

The LEAF is a true icon in Nissan’s EV crown, spearheading their electric revolution when it came onto the scene in 2010. Aerodynamic in shape and developed on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform, its design refresh is reminiscent of its ARIYA sibling. Its latest update plays an integral role in Nissan’s EV36Zero project, which aims to make the Sunderland plant into a flagship EV hub, creating a huge central base for EVs, renewable energy and battery production.

But that’s not all…

That’s right, Nissan have even more updates to share with the world in 2025!

The Sunderland crew aren’t stopping, with the 6,000-strong team also in line to build upgraded versions of the hugely popular Nissan Qashqai with Nissan’s innovative e-POWER technology.

Launched back in 2022, Nissan’s e-POWER technology is changing the face of hybrid driving, offering incredible refinement and efficiency, having sold nearly 250,000 models equipped with the technology since it was first introduced. Now the e-POWER system is undergoing its own upgrade to improve emissions and efficiency even further to make the driving experience as close to fully electric as possible.

Following the Japanese principle of Kaizen, which means ‘continuous improvement’, Nissan are constantly looking ahead to the future of sustainable and dynamic driving. David Moss, Senior Vice President for Research and Development, AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania) region, outlines the vision and intent behind Nissan’s direction: “As well as welcoming the return of the Micra as an EV and the third generation of our revolutionary LEAF, we’ve made significant steps with one of our most popular technologies.

“Having reinvented the hybrid with the introduction of e-POWER by making it quieter and more responsive than a traditional hybrid, the forthcoming updates to e-POWER will make it even more efficient, more refined and closer overall to a pure EV-driving experience.

“It will remain the powertrain of choice for buyers who love the feel of driving electric, but don’t want to recharge.”
