Big news – the government have announced a new grant for EVs! The Electric Car Grant (ECG) means you could save up to £3,750 on a new EV that costs less than £37,000.
What’s the deal?
This new grant for electric cars isn’t a complicated rebate or – like the Plug-in Car Grant that ended in 2022 – something you have to apply for yourself. The new ECG is designed to make things simple for you. The discount is applied directly at the dealership – no forms, no fuss.

Two ways to save
Here’s what we know so far:
· Up to £3,750 off the greenest EVs – these are models with the lowest CO2 emissions during manufacturing.
· £1,500 off for EVs that still meet strong eco standards, but don’t quite hit the very top tier.
Either way, you’re saving money while making a more sustainable choice. The government are also investing £25m to help local councils install ‘cross-pavement’ charging solutions.
This forms part of the UK’s Plan for Change, designed to help households save money while accelerating the switch to greener, zero-emission cars.
The Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, commented:
“This EV grant will not only allow people to keep more of their hard-earned money – it’ll help our automotive sector seize one of the biggest opportunities of the 21st century. And with over 82,000 public charge points now available across the UK, we’ve built the infrastructure families need to make the switch with confidence.”
Which cars qualify?
Only EVs from manufacturers committed to cutting emissions through official Science-Based Targets will be included. Around 50 electric models are expected to qualify right off the bat – and more are likely to follow. A full list of eligible models is coming soon.
Cars that could qualify for the grant if they meet the sustainability credentials include the Peugeot E-208, Fiat 500e, CUPRA Born, Abarth 500e and Peugeot E-2008. Great news for Arbury customers!
