First solar panels installed at Arbury in Bromsgrove to kick off new group initiative

At Arbury, we take our responsibility towards the environment very seriously. We are therefore delighted to announce our project to install solar panels across four of our locations in 2023 as part of our commitment to decarbonise.

The way we generate energy is changing, and we’re well aware of the need for the automotive industry to do its bit towards supporting the shift to a greener future. This is something we’re already working towards, with the introduction of new electric vehicles (EVs) and charging points at our dealerships.

And now, our new rooftop solar panels can start turning the UK sunshine into renewable energy – and power! Following a ten-week installation period, the first set of 356 panels is in pride of place at our largest dealership in Buntsford Park, Bromsgrove – home to Nissan and PEUGEOT.

In the six weeks that these solar panels have been in place, we’ve already generated 16,000 kilowatts of renewable energy – that’s the equivalent of planting nearly 11 trees! What’s more, they’ve helped us offset 20,000kg of CO2, which in automotive terms is the equivalent of a car doing 70,000 miles in a year.

We’re therefore thrilled with the impact that this project is already starting to have and can’t wait to see the significant, long-term difference this initiative will have for Arbury.

In making this transition to renewable energy, it was important that we partnered with a local, innovative company – one that could provide the expertise and knowledge we required in an area of rapidly evolving technology. With Chandler & Osborne, we believe we have found the right partner.

This is the first installation of these renewable energy sources – part of a group initiative that will see panels installed at four Arbury locations in 2023. The move forms part of our ambitions to boost our eco credentials and support the government’s goal of reaching net zero by 2050.

Our Managing Director, Ben Archer, commented:

“As the automotive industry evolves and people across the globe drive towards net zero, it’s important to us at #TeamArbury that we make greener choices – from supporting the switch to electric driving to cutting our carbon footprint with these new solar panels.

“Taking control of our energy needs also supports the future sustainability of the business. It’s not just about Corporate Social Responsibility, it’s about doing the right thing for our people and the planet. We’ll continue to invest in our facilities to offer our customers and our teams the very best environment to be in.”

James Osborne, Director of Chandler & Osborne, commented:

“We are delighted to be working with Arbury and helping them make the transition to solar-powered energy. We see a number of synergies in how both the renewable energy sector and the electric vehicle market are evolving, with the common goal of achieving carbon neutrality and safeguarding our environment for future generations.”

At the end of March 2023, the UK government published their ‘Powering up Britain’ mission, with the objectives of increasing energy security and achieving net zero emissions. At Arbury, we’re working towards reducing our energy consumption and are also investing in sustainability initiatives. For example, our cycle-to-work scheme is designed to reduce environmental pollution and support healthier lives.

What’s more, we have also invested in EV-accredited technicians to further support drivers of EVs. The increase in EV ownership means that having the services you need for the successful maintenance of your EV is more important than ever.
