Peugeot E-208 GTi breaks cover at Le Mans

A legend returns

The GTi badge is back, and it’s fully electric! The E-208 is equipped with a 280hp motor, capable of 0–62mph in 5.7 seconds and tuned with serious intent. It’s the most capable electric car in its segment – but the numbers aren’t the whole story…

Let’s rewind a bit. Peugeot’s original 205 GTi, launched 40 years ago, reshaped expectations for the compact sports hatch: raw, agile and unassuming. Over the years, we’ve seen successors like the 306, 206 and 208 GTi take that spirit and evolve it – leading to critical acclaim for their performance.

And now, the E-208 GTi picks up the torch, fully electric and brimming with modern tech – but without losing its soul.

With an outstanding weight-to-power ratio under 8kg/kW, wider tracks, sports suspension and 18-inch wheels, it’s built for pure agility and driving pleasure – delivering a fun-to-drive experience at every turn.

The chassis sits 30mm lower and the tracks have been widened by 56mm at the front and 27mm at the rear, while the wheels – purpose-built 18-inch units signed ‘PEUGEOT GTi’ – help balance the car’s widened stance with precision handling. They’re perforated too – not just for cooling, but a throwback to the bold ‘Speedline’ wheels of the 205 GTi 1.9.

A limited slip differential ensures perfect control on corners, providing driving confidence when it matters most, while a more pronounced rear wing and an aggressive diffuser turn heads wherever you go.

Iconic GTi style

That said, the E-208 GTi avoids excess. Peugeot have kept the styling disciplined. It features the iconic three-claw light signature of all 208 models, as well as subtle flares around the arches and a gloss-black rear diffuser. We love the exclusive bright-red body colour, which is a powerful nod to the iconic red paint popularised on the first 205 GTi. The red accents are placed with intent, from the grille to the calipers.

Inside, the design speaks to those who care about tactile experience. Red carpets, seatbelts, contrast stitching, Alcantara and that compact Peugeot steering wheel – now wrapped in perforated leather with red detailing. The sports seats feature integrated headrests, lateral bolstering and a nod to the 205’s iconic seat pattern. There’s genuine personality here, not just branding.

No-compromise engineering

The Peugeot E-208 GTi is equipped with an electric motor that develops 280hp and offers an impressive torque of 345Nm. The E-208 GTi thus offers the best performance of all models in the compact hatch segment; acceleration from 0 to 62mph in just 5.7 seconds, with a limited top speed of 112mph. It also boasts an all-electric range of 217 miles.

Charging is straightforward: under five hours from a 7.4kW wall box or less than 30 minutes from 20–80% with a 100kW DC charger. For more intensive uses, such as on the track, the E-208 GTi can be charged from 20 to 80% in less than 30 minutes from a 100kW DC rapid charger.

The E-208 GTi is the first all-electric car designed by Peugeot Sport. With their unique experience in competition, engineers made no compromises in terms of efficiency and performance. The team are pros at taking the expertise from the track and applying it to the road. Indeed, the reveal of the E-208 GTi at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – one of the largest and most iconic sporting events of the year – is no coincidence.

Facing the future

The tech offering is robust. Peugeot i-Connect Advanced brings natural voice control, real-time navigation and seamless smartphone integration. There’s also an app for remote pre-conditioning, charge scheduling and route planning that accounts for charger locations.
