Longer days, longer drives: 4 tricks for extending your Škoda Enyaq iV’s range this summer

Summer’s in full swing, with families and friends escaping to the coast or their favourite camping spot to make the most of the heatwave.

Longer days, longer drives: 4 tricks for extending your Škoda Enyaq iV’s range this summer

And the balmy weather is even better news for electric-car drivers, who may notice their vehicles are going the extra mile on a charge – with higher temperatures allowing batteries to work more efficiently.

But that’s not all – you can get even more from your battery by introducing a few simple changes to your routine.

Here at #TeamArbury, we’re always looking to bring you the latest tips to help you focus on the summer road trips ahead. Here are our top tricks for the multi-award-winning Enyaq iV (many of which apply to other electric vehicles).

1. Keep it cool

You might already use the Enyaq's remote preconditioning feature before setting off (especially in the winter!), but it’s also worth exploring this summer. By pre-cooling your cabin while still connected to a charger, the car won’t use the battery pack’s energy, which means that the climate control system doesn’t need to work as hard once you’ve set off. In short, the battery will have more energy…and range!

2. Head for the shade

It’s a top tip for keeping we humans safe in the sun but it’s also a handy trick for saving battery power. By choosing a parking space in the shade, it will help keep the cabin cool and you’ll use less energy to get to a comfortable temperature when you set off again.

3. Lighten the load

Although you might understandably need to add a roof box for a family staycation, it’s worth removing it when not in use during the trip, as they add resistance and therefore make your battery work harder and potentially take miles off your range. The same also applies to bike racks and any extra weight – our top tip is to check under boot floors to be sure you’re not carrying forgotten weighty cargo.

4. Keep your distance

For all the efficiency systems available, it’s always the driver who has the biggest influence on an electric car’s range. Anticipatory driving provides a longer range (using the regeneration system will add energy back into the battery, and is also safer. Keep a safe distance from the cars ahead, slow down smoothly for corners and use driver assistance systems to help you drive at an even speed.

Bonus tip: Stay sneeze-free

While not a range-extending tip, Škoda have another trick up their sleeve for making driving in the hotter months more enjoyable. Hay fever is the one downside to summer for millions of Brits. Fortunately, Škoda’s advanced Climatronic air conditioning system uses various sensors to monitor the car’s interior air quality. If necessary, the system responds by catching fine dust particles, helping prevent allergens from entering the interior cabin, and absorbing unpleasant odours.

For this to work optimally, you should look to change your cabin air filters regularly – contact Arbury Škoda if you would like to change yours or receive more information!
