Arbury sprung from the Cathedral Motor Company Ltd, first formed in 2000 by members from Evans Halshaw. Our first dealership was Arbury Service Station in Bulkington – the first time we used our current name. We grew quickly, adding a second PEUGEOT franchise, which included the Group’s Accident Repair Centre.
By 2004, we were ready to expand again – and, after years of searching for the perfect company, we added a third PEUGEOT franchise with the purchase of Dennis Cooper Cars. In December, we added our first Citroën dealer, located in Nuneaton.
In 2007, we purchased another site: Goodfellows, a 2.5-acre dealership representing PEUGEOT and Citroën in Walsall. Later that year, we also became Citroën Approved Repairers at our successful Birmingham Road location in Lichfield.
2008 saw us grow again, with an acquisition in Sydenham – adding representation in the area for both Citroën and Suzuki, the addition of the Fiat brand in a new showroom at Aldridge Walsall, and the addition of the ŠKODA brand to our Leamington Spa location.
2010 saw the acquisition of the Bromsgrove site, meaning we could cater to both new and existing PEUGEOT and Nissan customers in Bromsgrove, and the surrounding areas such as Redditch, Droitwich Spa, Worcester and Kidderminster.
2013 saw the introduction of the Nissan brand to Leamington Spa, along with the re-launch of our ŠKODA site at an expansive, standalone location.
In 2014, we were commended as the ‘Best Retailer Group’ at the AM Awards 2014, an event hosted by Automotive Management Magazine. We were also recognised by PEUGEOT as their top dealer group in the UK, taking five of the top positions in the Guild of Gold Lion award ranking, including the highly coveted first place. The prestigious Guild of Gold Lion Award recognises superb performance, including excellent customer service and sales performance and outstanding customer feedback – and 2014 wasn’t going to be our first and only appearance in the rankings…
In 2015, Arbury.co.uk was shortlisted for the Motor Trader ‘Dealer Website of the Year’ award. As a group, we raised over £2,000 for Children in Need. Nissan Bromsgrove won a Retailer of the Year award.
In 2016, we communicated with 90% of our customers electronically and carried out 75% of our sales activities via our website as part of our commitment to becoming more environmentally friendly in all areas of our business. We also welcomed a new brand and location to the Arbury family: SEAT in Solihull.
2017 was a busy year for the team, with the launch of a new main website, plus a whole host of dedicated sites for each of our brands in order to enhance the user journey and provide our customers with a seamless buying experience.
2018 saw a number of exciting developments, including the introduction of Abarth to our brand portfolio, a regional award for our Citroën Nuneaton dealership recognising their work with the Motability Car Scheme, and our PEUGEOT franchise being named the top PEUGEOT dealer group in the UK for sales, with over 98% for customer satisfaction! What’s more, we launched our Arbury Budget Range, to help us continue to meet the needs and requirements of all of our customers.
2019 saw us continue our winning ways, with all five of our PEUGEOT dealerships being named in the PEUGEOT Guild of Gold Lion dealers list (with Nuneaton taking the top spot), meaning we were the UK’s best performing PEUGEOT dealer group for the year. What’s more – our Nuneaton team won two accolades at the annual Citroën Excellence Awards. The team were awarded ‘Best Customer Aftersales Experience’ and ‘Best Sales Customer Experience’ – a particularly special moment, as 2019 marked Citroën’s centenary!
2020 marked our 20th year, and we celebrated a number of milestones during what was an unprecedented year for the world. We opened our new SEAT showroom in Stourbridge – the second SEAT dealership in our portfolio. What’s more, four of our PEUGEOT dealerships were named in the Top 15 PEUGEOT Guild of Gold Lion dealers, and Arbury Fleet was crowned the ‘PEUGEOT Guild of Gold Lion Business Centre of the Year 2019’. We also rebranded Arbury Fleet as Arbury Leasing to help us better serve Personal Leasing and Fleet customers who wish to lease brand-new vehicles and complete the process online.
We were likewise thrilled to be featured in the 2020 Sunday Times PwC Top Track 250, as one of Britain’s leading mid-market private companies with the biggest sales. This special COVID-19 edition highlighted the important contribution that mid-market companies have made to the UK during the pandemic. At Arbury, we are immensely proud of the role we played in helping to keep our nation’s key workers moving during lockdown, as well as making significant changes and adaptions to how we work in order to provide a safe and secure environment for customers and staff alike.
In 2021, we continued to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic, and were excited to hold our first-ever virtual event at the start of the year. And, in another ‘first’, we held our inaugural EV event, helping our customers get the most out of electric driving. In September, we were thrilled to see our Dealer Principal and Director, Scott Stenning, win the award for ‘Dealer Principal/General Manager of the Year’ at the AM Awards 2021. We were proud to be shortlisted for Best Dealer Group (more than 10 sites) too. We also expanded our portfolio, with our sixth PEUGEOT dealership opening in Stourbridge, and continued to invest in technology in order to provide the very best services for our customers.
